Those keeping in mind lower car insurance premiums when looking for a new car might be tempted by the Volkswagen Golf, which has just received five stars in EuroNCAP safety tests.
Furthermore, the car received the highest rating of any vehicle in the tests, despite stricter assessment criteria having been introduced.
The tests previously only accounted for how the vehicle performed in frontal crashes, side crashes and passenger protection, but the new standards mean that safe cars must have electronic safety and assistant systems which help avoid accidents and lowers car insurance premiums .
Whiplash-optimised head restraints were also introduced into the car to protect against spine injuries in rear crashes, and they were found to protect the spine better than existing systems.
It has been revealed in a survey by Saga Car Insurance that British people are looking to cut back on car insurance spending during the economic downturn.
