Brits can cut down on the cost of their car insurance by giving their policy a spring clean, it has been claimed.
According to esure, drivers can lower the cost of their premiums via a number of measures, including having the correct amount of excess and stating if they drive fewer miles than the average road user.
Putting a spouse on the policy will also lower costs, according to the insurer, due to the "family factor" and the belief that if people have a loved-one or child in the car they will drive more sensibly.
Drivers should also avoid modifying their car, pay their premium in one lump sum if possible and make sure they are using their garage .
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, said: "Savings on car insurance premiums are there to be had by shopping around and being smart when it comes to getting a quote . How you pay, who is on your policy and what excess you choose can all go some way to driving down your premium."
It was recently reported by Saga Motor Insurance that many people are trying to make cutbacks by increasing their voluntary excess or even downsizing their car .
