Allianz introduces video proof for motor insurance claims

One of the UK's leading insurers Allianz Commercial has teamed up with a CCTV company to provide video camera technology inside commercial vehicles to help prove liability in motor insurance claims.

SmartDrive Systems and Vision Techniques will provide the technology to Allianz motor insurance policyholders to monitor driving standards.

The devices can reduce the frequency of commercial vehicle collisions by more than 30 per cent.

Allianz Commercial has said that the technology will help motor insurance customers to control risk more effectively and highlight the importance of road safety .

Scott Raske, managing director at SmartDrive, said: "SmartDrive's measured safety programme has proven to significantly reduce avoidable accident frequency in UK commercial fleets and we are confident that Allianz's clients will benefit from our solution."

DirectLine for Business recently revealed that commercial vehicles such as vans are a target for thieves, with 560,000 vans being broken into in the past three years, and the company has said that a lack of protection can raise motor insurance premiums.
