Festival goers should not rely on their car insurance to cover valuables left in their vehicles at events such as Glastonbury, one expert has warned.
According to research by uSwitch.com, 64,000 cars at Glastonbury will be used to stash items with an estimated worth of £8 million, including satnavs, iPods and mobile phones .
However, as two-thirds of car insurance providers offer content cover of £100, the majority of these items will not be covered in the case of theft .
"Placing all of your valuables in a car or a tent could very well exempt you from cover with every insurance policy you own. With high value items such as iPods, mobile phones and satellite navigation systems standard in most cars, this could be a very costly oversight," comments the firm's insurance expert Mark Monteiro.
He advised motorists to check the details of their car insurance policy before they set off.
Summer revellers were recently warned to check their car cover carefully before driving on the continent, with Aviva suggesting that accidents in nations such as Germany and France can be costlier than an incident at home .
