Drivers looking to save some cash are increasingly cutting back on servicing their cars, it has been claimed.
According to research by Kwik Fit, as many as one in four car insurance customers plan to skip their next service, despite the fact many still continue to splash out on expensive car washes.
The survey found that 22 per cent of drivers questioned will spend around £80 a year valeting their car.
David White, customer services director at Kwik-Fit, said: "If money's tight they would probably be wise to wash the car themselves and put the money towards a service. After all there's no point in having a gleaming car if it's on the road to nowhere."
He warned that cutting back on services could lead to bigger costs in the long term if the vehicle breaks down.
Earlier this week, it was reported by uSwitch.com that one in five vehicle owners are opting for third party car insurance rather than a comprehensive policy in a bid to cut costs.
