Car insurance policyholders miss out on savings

Thu, 02 Jul 2009

New research by car insurance comparison site Tescocompare.com has found that drivers are not taking advantage of the savings which could be made through switching provider.

The report found that, while motorists change their vehicles an average of nine times during their life, they are less willing to reap the advantages of moving to a more suitable car insurance provider .

Some 15 per cent of motor owners have been with the same car insurance firm for five or more years, which the website says will mean drivers are paying over the odds on their annual premiums.

Debra Williams, spokesperson for Tescocompare.com, explained: "Even when the make and model of the car doesn't change from year to year, driving experience, age and personal circumstances do, all of which could have an impact on the cost of car insurance ."

Those seeking to switch to a more environmentally-friendly car insurance firm may be interested in the deals offered by ibuyeco, which donates money to charities such as the Woodland Trust and Borneo Orangutan Survival .
