January sees high number of car insurance claims, study shows

Tue, 20 Jan 2009

January is one of the worst months for car insurance claims, according to new research.

A study by esure reveals that both January 18th and January 28th are in the top five of days which experience above average car insurance claims, showing a 68 and 30 per cent increase from the mean respectively.

Mick Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at the car insurance firm, explained that wintery conditions are to blame for this rise in accidents .

"Motorists should take extra care, adapt their driving style according to the road and weather conditions, and allow extra time for each journey," he said.

Any car insurance claim will increase the cost of a driver's premium, so it pays to be careful, he added.

Yesterday, Steve Chelton, a spokesperson for Swinton Insurance, reminded people that their stopping distance will increase on wet roads, meaning it is vital they take extra care during rain storms.
