Direct Line is offering new customers 12 months car insurance for the price of ten, it has announced.
According to Maggie Game, head of car insurance at the company, the way the firm is run means it can pass discounts on to customers.
"We are not on price comparison websites so we don't pay them commissions. This means that when you come to us direct we could give you savings," she said.
Among the features included in Direct Line's car insurance policy is a vandalism promise, which means people will not lose their no claims discount if they fall victim to yobs.
The same also applies to accidents involving an uninsured driver if the collision is not the car insurance customer's fault.
Yesterday, a study by Auto Trader found 60 per cent of people are looking to cut the cost of driving as the price of running a car increases.
