Car insurance warning over frosting

Fri, 09 Jan 2009

Car insurance customers must be on the look out for opportunistic thieves, one firm has warned.

According to Sainsbury's Car Insurance, 15,000 people could be caught out by "frosting" - where a vehicle is taken after being left with the engine running to de-ice the windows, reports Totally Motor.

Joanne Mallon, manager of the car insurance firm, said: "It may seem an unlikely crime but our research suggests that thousands of households are falling victim to frosting every year."

People who have their vehicle taken in this manner are not likely to be covered by their car insurance, she warned.

Drivers should be aware of the risks they run when leaving their car unattended with the keys in the ignition, Ms Mallon stated.

Yesterday, Confused.com announced it has launched a new advertising campaign aimed at encouraging people to make use of its car insurance comparison service.

The ad features real life customers using the site and giving their opinions.
