Swiftcover refuses car insurance for musicians

Tue, 24 Feb 2009

Despite featuring a pop star in its TV adverts, Swiftcover does not provide car insurance to musicians, it has been claimed.

Veteran rocker Iggy Pop is the star of the insurer's Get a Life. Get Swiftcovered campaign, however a number of people have complained that individuals in the entertainment industry are being turned down by the insurance provider due to their jobs being considered high risk.

However, the firm states that Iggy is featured in the advert as someone who loves life rather than a musician.

The Advertising Standards Authority is launching an investigation into the matter.

"We have received 12 complaints and we are formally investigating those complaints," a spokesperson for the authority states.

Recent research by Swinton highlighted that in the last year, there has been a ten per cent increase in the number of drivers choosing third party fire and theft cover when it comes to renewing their policy as a means of saving money .
