Small cars offer car insurance savings, expert claims

Thu, 19 Feb 2009

Newer drivers looking for car insurance savings should opt for a smaller vehicle, according to one expert.

Peter Staddon, head of technical services at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, explained that there is no reason people who have just passed their test should drive a high-powered car .

Indeed, people who decide to go for a smaller vehicle are likely to save money on their car insurance in the long term, he stated.

"If you have a smaller car it could help to build up your no claims bonus and that is something we try and encourage young drivers to do," Mr Staddon said.

Those who have just gained their driving licence should be looking to improve their skills behind the wheel, rather than showing off in a fast motor, the car insurance expert added.

Earlier this week, a study by Sainsbury's Car Insurance revealed that the average cost of car insurance fell by three per cent in the last six months of 2008.
