Saga extends car insurance to healthcare

Wed, 22 Apr 2009

Car insurance provider Saga has added personal injury cover to its range of motor policies to insure against accidents that happen on the road.

Its Accident Healthcare option is available to both new and existing car insurance customers, providing up to £1 million cover for any treatment costs incurred for injuries sustained in a road traffic accident .

Department for Transport statistics show that 250,000 people were injured on roads in the UK, while ill health is a major cause of stress for over-50s, according to the car insurance provider .

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive for Saga, said: "Even a minor road accident can require medical treatment that can be a drawn out process. At times like these, older people in particular, value quick access to high quality care that private healthcare provides."

The RAC recently conducted research into the effect of fatigue on drivers, finding that ten per cent of accidents on the road are caused by driver sleepiness and that they are more likely to end in serious injury .
