Saga has reminded the 32 per cent of over-50s who intend to go on a caravan holiday this summer to make sure that they are adequately covered through their motor insurance .
According to the insurance provider, sales of caravans are up ten to 15 per cent this year due to people trying to cut costs of travel during the credit crunch.
However, holidaymakers should not assume that their caravan is covered for theft and damage under their regular motor insurance as it could be more costly if something goes wrong.
Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga Group, said: "It is important that caravan owners fully understand what their insurance policies cover. Separate caravan insurance is vital when using your caravan, and ensures that even if the holiday takes a turn for the worst, you won't be left out of pocket."
Motor insurance provider CaravanQuoter.co.uk recently advised caravan owners to find the best deal for cover to save even more money on their holiday.
