Research by Sainsburys Car Insurance has shown that 23.2 million drivers have suffered from road rage in the past.
The main cause of road rage is other people's tailgating, with 41 per cent of people admitting to seeing red after it happens, while others pulling out of junctions at the wrong time and changing lanes without indicating are also prime causes.
Fifty-eight per cent of drivers have been victims of road rage, with 330,000 motorists being physically assaulted and five per cent being threatened with physical violence by angry car users.
Joanne Mallon, manager for Sainsbury's Car Insurance, said: "A worrying number of motorists have unfortunately suffered from road rage . and the result can be both mentally and physically scarring for the victims."
Saga recently revealed in a survey that over two thirds of British drivers were cutting costs of the day-to-day running of their vehicles in order to avoid reducing car insurance cover .
