Mobile phone users warned over invalidating their car insurance

Mon, 22 Sep 2008

People who have an accident while using their mobile phone could invalidate their car insurance, drivers have been warned.

Jeremy Moll, insurance expert at comparethemarket.com, explained that a recent study has shown texting while driving is more dangerous than drinking.

He said: "If you have a car accident whilst using your mobile phone you risk having your insurance claim thrown out and getting convictions on your license."

People should avoid using their phone at all while at the wheel, Mr Moll added.

Anyone who does have convictions for using a mobile while driving should make sure they declare it as not doing so could also mean their car insurance is invalid when they come to make a claim .

Recently, Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for the British Insurance Brokers' Association, stated that car insurance is more expensive in cities, but people should not be tempted to avoid getting it because of this.

He suggested people who are struggling to afford cover should speak to an insurance broker .
