Young people looking to take their vehicle away with them to university must inform their car insurance provider, one expert has warned.
Mike Powell, principal consultant of general insurance at Defaqto, explained that those who do not do so might invalidate their car insurance, reports money.co.uk
Speaking to the news provider, he said: "If you are intending to take your car to university, you need to ensure that your insurer is informed of where your car will be parked."
People should also make sure they amend their vehicle registration document as if they do so any car tax reminders will be sent to the address where they are living, rather than their parents' house, Mr Powell added.
Last week, research by the AA found young men can expect to pay around twice as much for their first year of car insurance cover when compared to women of a similar age.
According to the car insurance firm, this reflects the increased chances of young male drivers having to make a claim .
