Smaller vehicles offer car insurance savings, expert says

Mon, 10 Nov 2008

People looking to cut the cost of their car insurance should consider changing to a smaller vehicle .

Speaking to the Observer, Zoe Cooper, an account executive from Brighton, explained how she has saved money on her car insurance by getting rid of her Volvo and replacing it with a Ford Fiesta .

"My insurance was about £800 a year on the Volvo, now it's £220," she said.

As well as the car insurance saving, filling up with petrol now costs less as well, she added.

Will Thomas, head of car insurance at Confused.com told the newspaper that people should consider the overall cost of running a vehicle - including that of car insurance - when looking to buy one.

Last week, Moneysupermarket.com warned people to drive carefully because if they are involved in an accident for which they are at fault then the cost of their car insurance could increase dramatically.
