Drivers in East Sussex are most likely to claim on their car insurance because their vehicle has been stolen, according to new research.
A study by Moneysupermarket.com reveals that more than four per cent of motorists in the village of Winchelsea have made a claim on their car insurance for theft in the last five years.
In second and third place for such car insurance claims were Saltburn-by-the-sea in Cleveland and Godstone in Surrey respectively.
Andy Leadbetter, head of insurance at the price comparison website stated this it was a "shock" to see rural villages at the top of the list for car crime .
"My advice to motorists is to always be alert when it comes to the security of your vehicle; parking safely for example, in a garage if possible," he said.
People should make sure they do not leave any valuables on display, Mr Leadbetter added.
Yesterday, RIAS announced it has launched a car insurance add-on which allows people to recoup their excess if they have to make a claim on their main policy.
