New drivers who take the Pass Plus training course to save on the cost of car insurance could be wasting their money, new research has found.
A study conducted by uSwitch.com found that many of the car insurance companies that do offer discounts to those who have completed the course offer more expensive policies anyway, meaning that new drivers can still end up paying over the odds.
The company found that an 18-year-old male driving a Vauxhall Corsa in London will receive a 23 per cent discount with the AA, but even with this the car insurance premium is still £1,545 more expensive than the best policy on the market.
Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch.com, said: "Most people seem to think that if you take the Pass Plus course, you will get a discount on your car insurance -however this is not always the case.
"In some cases the saving is still less than the cost of £171 to sit the Pass Plus."
Last week Tina Shortle, director of switftcover.com, warned that people who crash while eating at the wheel might be accused of negligence, something which will result in a lower pay out on their car insurance .
