More than six million people have switched car insurance provider over the last six months as they seek to avoid the rising cost of premiums, new research shows.
The study, conducted by MoneyExpert.com found that 6.43 million people have changed car insurance companies as they look to get a better deal.
Sean Gardner, founder of MoneyExpert.com, said; "When it comes to car insurance, loyalty does not pay. The only way that car insurance companies can offer discounts and incentives to attract new business is by passing on the extra cost to their existing customers."
He added that as car insurance premiums are set to rise by around ten per cent this year, it is even more vital that people shop around to make sure that they are getting the best possible deal.
The fact that other bills are also rising means that those who are feeling the pinch should cut the cost of their car insurance to relieve the situation, he concluded.
Yesterday, Tesco announced it is offer a free pressure washer to anyone who takes out a car insurance policy with the company .
