Married couples can save money on their car insurance, new research has found.
According to a study by car insurance comparison website Confused.com, those living in wedded bliss can save up to 1.5 times as much on their policies than those who are single.
Married couples pay an average of £82.70 a year less for their car insurance than those who have not wed, the company found, with men saving even more than women.
Debra Williams, managing director at Confused.com, said: "Despite the old male adage that women prosper more from a marriage arrangement than their out-of-pocket husbands, our research shows that marrying a woman can in fact save men a considerable amount on their car insurance."
However, the cost of car insurance can varied greatly between providers and because of this people should make sure that they shop around, no matter what their marital status.
Yesterday, Erik Nelson, spokesperson for Norwich Union, warned that people should make sure that they know what their car insurance policy covers them for if they decide to take their vehicle abroad.
