Car insurance customers who are already facing the squeeze are to be offered some respite by one company .
Liverpool Victoria (LV) has announced that it is to abolish "unfair" administration charges for car insurance customers.
According to the firm this means that people who have a car insurance policy will not have to pay anything when they amend cover levels, change address, or cancel "due to reasons outside their control".
This will set it apart from many other major car insurance firms, the company believes.
Commenting on the move, Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch.com, said: "We hope that LV has issued a wake-up call to other insurers that, indeed, old ideas are often the best, and that a precedent has been set which other insurance providers will now follow."
However, the fact car insurance customers will still have to pay a fee when there is a change of vehicle or driver, or a request for duplicate documents still seems somewhat unfair, he added.
Earlier this week, Norwich Union warned that young drivers who take the Pass Plus course might not save any money on their car insurance .
