More than 11 million British drivers would lie in order to avoid jeopardising their car insurance claim, a new survey has found.
The research, conducted by price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com, found that a third of drivers would tell their car insurance company their stolen vehicle was locked, even if it was not.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at the firm said: "If your claim is as a result of your own wrong-doing, then insurers are likely to see it as fraudulent. If claims are regularly being paid out to drivers who don't deserve it, the honest motorist loses out and could see future premiums increase."
He added that if people are caught making a fraudulent car insurance claim then they might be refused cover in future.
Yesterday, Sean Gardner, founder of MoneyExpert.com, urged people to switch car insurance providers to make sure that they are getting the best possible deal.
