Drivers might find that they are not covered by their car insurance policy if they have an accident while they are eating or smoking behind the wheel, one firm has warned.
Tina Shortle, director of swiftcover.com, explained that while such activities are not illegal, people could still found themselves being accused of negligence - something that would result in a greatly reduce pay out on their car insurance.
She also warned that people who decide to drive someone else's vehicle should not automatically assume that they will be covered by their own car insurance when often this is not the case.
People should check the small print on their policy to make sure what they are covered for, Ms Shortle concluded.
Yesterday, Richard Mason, director of insurance at Moneysupermarket.com, warned people not to make fraudulent claims on their car insurance because if they are caught they will have difficulty getting cover in future.
