People who lie when making a car insurance claim are being "absolutely stupid", one expert has warned.
David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, explained that people who lie on a car insurance claims form could find that their policy becomes void.
He said: "If you do get found out then not only will you not get the claims processed but there is also a danger that your premiums may go up as a result of this."
Car insurance firms are better than ever at detecting lies when they are processing claims, he added.
People should be absolutely honest with their car insurance firm whenever they make a claim, Mr Kuo concluded.
A recent survey by RSA found that 1.2 million Britons do not think it is wrong to lie when making an insurance claim.
It also found that 74 per cent of people realise that their policy could become void as a result of the lie.
