Car insurance for young drivers could get cheaper

Fri, 09 May 2008

According to recent reports, young drivers in the UK could save hundreds of pounds on their car insurance policy . A fresh government plan could see insurance discounts for those policyholders that take advanced driving lessons, and improve their driving skills.

The special course, which will be developed by the Driving Standards Agency, will include specific indicators of driving prowess such as motorway driving and emergency braking.

Currently, young drivers in the UK with no no-claims bonus pay thousands of pounds per annum for their insurance . For those drivers that have completed courses, motor insurance discounts of 25% could be available.

The Environmental Transport Association reportedly commented: "Additional training will be welcomed both by road safety campaigners and drivers themselves; with the average insurance premium for a new male driver at £1,200, anything that can reduce these costs is bound to be popular."
