Anyone looking for a new car insurance policy should go through a broker to make sure that they get the best deal possible, one industry body has claimed.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA), explained that as car insurance policies can often be complicated, an expert can help people choose the best option for them.
He said: "The broker would be the best person to advise individual customers [on what cover they need] depending on individual circumstance."
A broker will be able to help the customer find either a 'no frills' style car insurance policy or a something more comprehensive, depending on what they are searching for, he added.
If a consumer is able to identify the right car insurance policy for them, then they should not end up paying out extra money for cover they do not need, Mr Trudgill stated.
Recently, research by financial website Fool.co.uk found that 60 per cent of consumers dislike insurance, but think it is a price worth paying.
