Women are safer drivers than men and can benefit from lower car insurance premiums because of this, one expert has claimed.
Niki Bolton, spokesperson for women-only car insurance firm Sheilas' Wheels, explained that female drivers tend be involved in smaller accidents than men, they tend to make smaller claims on their car insurance .
However, Ms Bolton added it is still important for women to make sure they are getting the best possible deal on their car insurance .
She said: "The key thing for any motorist - whether male or female - is to shop around at renewal for their car insurance and not only look for a good price but also a quality product."
Women are now "more discerning customers" when it comes to car insurance, she added.
According to the Home Office, male drivers were responsible for 94 per cent of car accidents involving death or bodily harm between 1999 and 2003.
