Anyone planning to drive to a music festival this summer might want to consider adding a friend to their car insurance policy, one expert has said.
Erik Nelson, a spokesperson for the RAC, explained that if people are planning to share the task of driving to an event and the second driver is not named on the owner's car insurance policy, an accident could prove costly.
He said: "They would be third party only on their friend's car . If your friend crashes your car, say he puts it into a tree, you are going to face 100 per cent of the bill."
Mr Nelson added that by adding someone to a car insurance policy, they will be fully covered.
The AA's British Insurance Premium Index, published last year, found that drivers under 21 can struggle to afford comprehensive car insurance and usually opt for third party, fire and theft cover instead.
