Anyone who decides to modify their vehicle could end up with a higher car insurance premium, one expert has warned.
Will Thomas, head of car insurance at Confused.com, explained that anyone who added spoilers, alloy wheels or tinted windows to their vehicle could expect to pay an average of £545 more than someone who did not.
He said: "As car modifications become more popular with young drivers, it is important that they are made aware of the ensuing cost of car insurance.
"Adding spoilers and tinted windows, for example, can not only dramatically increase car insurance premiums, but they can render car insurance void in some instances, especially when the driver fails to inform the insurer of any changes."
Mr Thomas added that anyone who did feel the need to modify their car should shop around before taking out their car insurance to ensure that they get the best available deal.
Earlier this week, Moneysupermarket.com suggested that anyone looking to buy a second vehicle should check if they could use their no claims bonus to get a discount on their new car insurance policy .
