Car insurance firm's warning over personal belongings

Mon, 10 Mar 2008

Female motorists leave an average of £129 worth of personal items in their cars, one car insurance firm has claimed.

According to a survey conducted by women-only car insurance firm Shelia's Wheels, 85 per cent of respondents admitted to leaving personal items in their car .

Jacky Brown, spokesperson for the car insurance firm, said: "Any personal belongings, whatever their value, that are left unattended in a car can be easy pickings for opportunistic thieves.

"To avoid a smashed window or a broken lock, we want to encourage all women to avoid using their car as a wardrobe on wheels and leaving anything strewn over the back seat, on display."

She added that in the event of a crash, any item kept in a vehicle could become "an in-car missile".

Last week, Which? Legal Service warned that people should read the small print of their car insurance policies to make sure they are aware of what is covered.
