Norwich Union has scrapped its pay as you go car insurance scheme due to a lack of interest from customers, it has emerged.
The policy, which aimed to offer reduced car insurance premiums to people who avoided driving at riskier times such as late at night, was launched in 2006 but has not been as popular as expected, the Independent reports.
Speaking to the newspaper, a spokesperson for the firm said: "We are pausing Pay As You Drive and transferring existing policyholders on to more traditional products."
In order to monitor their driving habits, car insurance customers opting for the policy had to have a tracking box installed in their vehicle .
According to Norwich Union, people were less keen to adopt these as had been predicted.
Last week, More Than announced it is launching a women only car insurance policy.
According to the firm, the policy offers priority roadside assistance and a replacement vehicle within two hours.
