Britons are a nation of bargain hunters when it comes to car insurance, new research shows.
A study by Fairinvestment.co.uk found that price is the most important factor for 57 per cent of people looking for a new car insurance policy .
Only 19 per cent of people stated that the level of cover their car insurance provides is the most important thing.
However, such an attitude could be cause for concern as choosing the cheapest car insurance might not always be the best option for motorists.
James Caldwell, director of Fairinvestment.co.uk, said: "Motorists should be careful choosing their car insurance by price alone, the cheapest car insurance is not always the best and there are other aspects to be taken into consideration."
When shopping around for car insurance people should take in to account policy features and also examine the small print to make sure they know what they are getting, he added.
Yesterday, Janet Conner, managing director of over 50s insurance specialist RIAS, warned people planning to take their car abroad to check if the policy covers them in such situations.
