Motorists confess to bad behaviour in car insurance firm poll

Mon, 28 Jul 2008

Two-thirds of motorists engaged in risky behaviour behind the wheel in the last year, one car insurance firm has found.

A study conduced by Sainsbury's Car Insurance found that the most common activity was eating while driving, something that 41 per cent of drivers owned up to.

On top of this, 17 per cent admitted speeding, something that could push their car insurance up if they are convicted of an offence.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's Car Insurance said: "It can be easy to become complacent behind the wheel of a car especially when driving regular routes, but our advice is to stay alert and safe and don't allow yourself to be distracted."

The overall figure was a rise of three per cent on last year's survey, the car insurance firm added.

Last week, the Daily Telegraph suggested that people might want to cut the number of drivers named on their policy in order to make car insurance savings.
