Anyone with a caravan needs to make sure that it is covered by their car insurance policy, one expert has warned.
Simon Lamble, product director at Confused.com, explained that most car insurance policies only offer third-party cover while a caravan is being towed.
For this reason, he stated, people should check with their car insurance provider to check they have comprehensive cover before they set off.
Mr Lamble said: "While most caravans are covered under car insurance policies, this only applies while the caravan is attached to the vehicle, so separate cover is often advisable."
People should also check if their valuables are covered by their home insurance policy, or if they will need to make other arrangements, he added.
Last week, car insurance firm Admiral warned that people should not leave valuables on display in their vehicles as this will encourage thieves to break in and steal such items.
