Car insurance customers seem unwilling to switch providers despite the fact this means they could be paying more than they should, one expert has warned.
Figures released by Tescocompare.com reveal that only 32 per cent of car insurance customers have changed providers in the last year.
A further 36 per cent say that they have not switched car insurance firms for three years or longer, while seven per cent have never changed at all.
Paul Baxter, director of commercial and partnerships at Tescocompare.com, said: "With the credit crunch in full swing and people tightening their belts, this is an area where savings can easily be made.
"We encourage everyone to check the competitiveness of their renewal premium before accepting it."
Yesterday, figure from the AA revealed that the cost of the average car insurance premium increased by £20 over the second quarter of 2008.
For young drivers the average cost of car insurance increased by £45.
