Police in Norfolk have warned motorists that using their mobile phones when driving is "extremely irresponsible".
Car insurance customers may be interested to know that a spokesman for the constabulary claimed that mobile phones can distract motorists and may result in collisions on the road, the Norwich Evening News reports.
"Research has shown that if you are using a mobile phone whilst driving, you are four times more likely to be involved in a collision," he remarked.
Callers ought to finish the call and arrange to speak to someone later if they are behind the wheel of a car, he advised.
Motorists should switch off their phones throughout the course of their journey, he added.
In related news, police in Norfolk are running a Winter Safety campaign over the next two weeks.
Road policing officers in the area are planning to stop vehicles to ensure that they are adequately maintained and meet the requirements of the law.
