Car insurance goes green

Wed, 30 Jan 2008

Increased public interest in going green means that eco-friendly car insurance is becoming more popular, according to one expert.

Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch.com, said: "Our research indicates that eco-insurers are becoming increasingly competitive."

Mr Berkhauer added that it was not just owners of green vehicles that can benefit from environmentally friendly car insurance policies.

He explained that even those driving vehicles with slightly higher emissions should not ignore green providers when looking for a car insurance quote .

But he did say that the environmentally conscious should look at whether the company offering the car insurance policy was green, or if it was the car insurance policy itself.

Some firms, such as More Than, where 100 per cent carbon natural, where as others, like the Green Insurance Company, actively promoted green policies and offered discounted car insurance premiums for green cars, he explained.

The government is set to introduce a law that would see "continuous insurance enforcement" meaning that anyone without car insurance would face a stream of penalty notices .
