Younger drivers should shop around for their car insurance - and taking advanced driving courses could also help cut their car insurance premium, one expert believes.
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, explained that even though younger drivers were a higher risk than others, there were still savings to be made by looking at as many car insurance companies as possible.
He said: "Shop around, even in a market like this. There are more competitive companies than others. Look into Pass Plus; some [car insurance] companies now offer incentives for young drivers who have this."
Mr Tarling added that some car insurance firms also offered other incentives to younger drivers, including pay-as-you-go car insurance, which could help reduce someone's premium.
Brake, the road safety charity, says that young drivers have a higher risk of being involved in an accident .
It found that in 2004 151 car drivers aged between 16 and 19 were killed in crashes.
