Over three-quarters of Brits are risking a large car insurance claim from driving while still under the influence of alcohol.
New research by the AA Populus Panel has found that 80 per cent of drivers think they may have been over the drink-driving limit after getting behind the wheel the morning after a big night out.
The study found that drivers between the ages of 25 and 34 in Scotland are the most likely to often consider being over the limit the next day, risking an increased chance of a car insurance claim by getting behind the wheel.
Edmund King, president of the AA, said on most occasions "the majority of drivers will not be over the drink-drive limit the next morning".
He added: "However, if someone has been to a party drinking into the early hours and gets little sleep they might be over the limit the next morning. Don't let the morning after be a morning disaster. If in doubt don't take the car out."
Nick Starling, the Association of British Insurers' director of general insurance and health, recently said that people who lie to get cheaper car insurance could end up with no cover at all.
