Car insurance customers urged to take it easy over Christmas

Tue, 23 Dec 2008

Car insurance customers have been urged to take it easy on the roads this Christmas .

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has warned that conditions can be treacherous at this time of year and because of this people should take every precaution to avoid an accident and subsequent car insurance claim .

It suggested that car insurance customers check the weather forecast before leaving and also allow extra time for their journey.

People should also let someone know the route they are planning to take and give loved ones an expected time of arrival.

As well as this, car insurance customers were advised to make sure they secure any items they have in the car as "the last thing you need is a broken present after all the shops are shut".

Recently, Will Thomas, head of car insurance at Confused.com, told the Observer that people should consider taking out roadside assistance protection.

He explained that this is not included in a standard car insurance policy .
