Younger motorists are most likely to buy environmentally-friendly vehicles, according to one car insurance firm .
Research by esure car insurance reveals that 81 per cent of under-25s would consider driving an electric car .
According to the car insurance firm, this eagerness could be down to the lower cost of motoring associated with such vehicles.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, said: " If fuel prices continue to rise, we may see more drivers switching to electric cars because Britain's motorists are definitely feeling the pinch when it comes to the costs associated with running a car ."
However, older drivers seem less keen to change their buying habits with 66 per cent of over-55s saying they would consider the option.
Yesterday, research by Greenbee.com revealed that 40 per cent of people would rather pay for minor repairs themselves rather than lose their no claims bonus after being involved in an accident.
