Car drivers who decide to switch to a bike might want to shop round for their motorcycle insurance, one expert has claimed.
A spokesperson for Churchill Insurance explained that some firms will take a person's history as a car driver in to account when they are looking to take out a motorcycle insurance policy, while some would not.
She added that because where someone lives is just one factor used by companies when calculating a motorcycle insurance premium, those shopping around might be able to find a cheaper deal.
Motorcycles and mopeds are becoming more popular among commuters looking to dodge congestion charges, she concluded.
According to the Motorcycle Industry Association, 2007 saw the largest increase in motorcycle, moped and scooter registrations in the last seven years.
More than 3.5 million people are now licensed to ride a bike, figures released the body and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Association, indicate.
