Road rage is a growing threat to drivers and another reason they should make sure that they have a suitable car insurance policy in place, it has been claimed.
According to data released by MoneyExpert.com, more than 7.4 million motorists have been involved in confrontations with other drivers.
It adds that 300,000 have had their vehicles damaged as a result, underlining the need for car insurance .
Sean Gardner of MoneyExpert.com, said: "Most of us will have lost our tempers while stuck in traffic and can sympathise with the sense of frustration felt by other drivers.
"But any sympathy goes out of the window for drivers who take out their anger on others."
He added that around one in twenty comprehensive car insurance policies have a specific allowance for personal injury caused by road rage.
Yesterday, Debra Williams of Confused.com claimed that a "boy racer" mentality means that men typically pay more than women for their car insurance .
