Postcode affects car insurance premium

Wed, 02 Apr 2008

Depending on where you live, your car insurance could be more or less expensive. For those in an insurance ‘hotspot’ area, premiums could permanently be higher.

When insurance companies come to price a car insurance policy, they take a variety of factors into account . Those areas with higher rates of car crime claims, which the company has access to, will se inflated premiums due to the higher risk.

A spokesman for the AA, Ian Crowder, was reported as commenting: "If you're in an inner city area and you leave your car on the street you could pay three times the premium of somebody on the outskirts of town in a leafy cul-de-sac with their car parked in the garage."

High risk motor insurance hotspots include Manchester, South East London, Liverpool, Birmingham and Leeds .
