A new survey has revealed that many drivers are not taking adequate safety precautions when driving their children to school.
Research by Sainsbury's Bank found that 15 per cent of those driving their children to school said they had driven without properly securing their child.
This is despite some 1.6 million people having been involved in an accident while making the journey during the course of the last five years.
Joanne Mallon, car insurance manager at Sainsbury's, said: "The school run can be very stressful for drivers. Busy roads, children being noisy in the back seat, and the worry of being late for school or work can all lead to stress that can affect people's driving."
It is "concerning" that there are a "significant" number of people who are not ensuring their children are completely secured in the car, she added.
In related news, MoneyExpert recently reported that approximately 350,000 motorists have disobeyed the law by driving without car insurance at some point in the last year.
