Car insurance not costly for convertibles, research shows

Wed, 23 Apr 2008

Anyone considering switching to a convertible need not worry that their car insurance premium goes through the roof, it has been claimed.

Research by Confused.com found that car insurance policies for convertibles only cost an average of 60 pence extra to insure per week, or £32 a year.

It also found that the lowest difference in the cost of car insurance for a convertible and non-convertible car is just £11 a year.

Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com, said: "Car insurance is becoming increasingly competitive so whether you are insuring an old banger or a sleek sports car, it is vital to shop around for the best deal in order to make sure that you aren't paying over the odds for your car insurance."

She added that if drivers took precautions such as not leaving valuables in their car, or parking somewhere safe, then they could make further savings on their car insurance.

On Monday, a survey by insurance.co.uk found that 26 per cent of people lied when applying for their car insurance, something which could invalidate their policy.
