According to recent research by car insurance company eSure, no claims bonuses on car insurance policies are not always as secure as they seem. Research by the firm indicates that no claims bonuses are often rendered invalid in the event of a claim .
NCS (No Claims Discounts) are thought of as one of the principle ways of making a car insurance policy cheaper. The research indicates that nearly 40 per cent of drivers do not understand that claims have a set limit before NCD become invalid. For some insurance companies, eSure say, this can be just one at fault vehicle insurance claim.
However, the insurance company say that paying to protect no claims bonuses is worthwhile, so long as drivers understand small print and terms and conditions. The head of risk and underwriting at the company, Mike Pickard, reportedly commented: "We have long believed there are millions of drivers who make a single claim and then find their discount reduced because of a second incident that may be beyond their control. Thousands of cars each year are damaged by animals, falling roof tiles and vandals where there's no other insurer to pay up as well as the millions of usual bumps and scrapes."
