Women are neglected on the car forecourt and often leave dealerships disgruntled, according to research by a car insurance firm .
Sheilas' Wheels has released the results from its Car Showroom Shake Up showing that one in five women have been put off purchasing a vehicle because of comments made by the salesperson or the atmosphere of the showroom.
The female car insurance company estimates that this has led to a loss of sales totalling £907 million this year alone.
Spokesperson for Sheilas' Wheels Jacky Brown comments that the UK car industry is not meeting the needs of female motorists.
"The fact that so many women have pulled out of a new car purchase because of the atmosphere in the showroom and sales experience shows that a lot of changes are needed," she remarked.
Dr Sandra Wheatley, an independent psychologist, noted that female car sales assistants are likely to be trusted more by women drivers and should be more successful at selling cars to this demographic.
A report last week by the AA found that 59 per cent of motorists find car salesmen to be "untrustworthy".
