Green car insurance company offsets C02

Wed, 19 Sep 2007

Green car insurance company ibuyeco has announced it has offset 18,000 tonnes of CO2 since its launch in June.

The company guarantees that it will offset 100 per cent of a car insurance holder's CO2 gasses emitted when driving.

According to ibuyeco, 18,000 tonnes of C02 is emitted by 3,214 UK households over 12 months.

Marketing manager at ibuyeco Lucy Bailey comments that there was a consumer demand for a green car insurance product.

"With UK road traffic accounting for twenty five per cent of all CO2 emissions there was huge demand for an insurance product that helped counteract the damaging effect our every day use of the car was making," she remarks.

She adds that the car insurance premiums the company offers are competitive.

Vehicle emissions are calculated based on each individual vehicle using guidelines from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

In related news, drivers are leaving billions of pounds worth of gadgets in their vehicles, making them an easy target for thieves, research from car insurance company Zurich has found.
